“Loan Ranger Rides Again”
For Zonta Tribute Dinner
James D. Hicken, president and chief executive officer of Bank of Santa Clarita, has been selected as the honoree for the 2011 Celebrity Tribute dinner sponsored by Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley. The event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, at the Odyssey Restaurant.
Theme for this year’s dinner is “The Loan Ranger Rides Again,” in tribute to Hicken’s banking career as well as his teen years, when he spent his summers working on a cattle ranch in Wyoming.
Planning for the 2011 dinner is currently underway, guided by Zontians Alicia Estrada, administrative chair; Chris Miller, logistics; and Terry Kanowsky, fundraising.
“Jim Hicken is an excellent honoree for Zonta’s Tribute dinner,” Estrada said. “He is a leader in both his career and community service activities, and his background makes for a very interesting theme. I think our guests will enjoy this year’s dinner very much.”
Hicken has 33 years of commercial banking experience. Prior to founding Bank of Santa Clarita, he served as executive vice president and chief lending officer of Valencia Bank &Trust. When that bank was acquired by Union Bank, he served as senior vice president and regional manager for Union Bank for several years. A SCV resident for the last 15 years, Hicken is a graduate of the University of Utah College of Business.
In addition to his career achievements, he has served in leadership positions with the Operating Board for HMNM Hospital, Goodwill Southern California, Hospital Association of Southern California and College of the Canyons Foundtion. He has actively supported a number of local community organizations.
Estrada has been a member of Zonta in 2005, has served on the club Board and a number of committees, and currently is first vice president in charge of programs and secretary for Zonta Foundation. Miller has served in a number of positions on the Zonta Executive Board, served as club president from 2007-08 and currently is president-elect of the local club. Kanowsky has served on a number of committees since joining Zonta three years ago and helped coordinate the entertainment for the 2009 Tribute.
The Tribute is Zonta’s top fund-raising event of the year and supports the club’s scholarship, grant and community service programs. Zonta is dedicated to improving the lives of women locally and worldwide.

Each year, Zonta invites other community service organizations to nominate one of their own members who has contributed to the improvement of the status of women through volunteer service to their organization. Each nominee is recognized at our annual "Women in Service" (formerly "Status of Women") Celebration in early Spring. Our committee selects one of the nominees to receive the coveted "Carmen Sarro Award" for outstanding community service.

LUNAFEST®, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley.
This unique film festival highlights... women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women's health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
