Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Grants & Scholarships
The Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley Foundation has implemented a grant process which
- invites local organizations to apply for larger gifts,
- increases emphasis on our mission of “advancing the status of women,” and
- provides for greater accountability with regard to how the funds are used.
Boys & Girls Club of SCV
SMART Girls (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) is a nationally acclaimed comprehensive Boys and Girls Club program that equips girls with basic life skills, problem-solving and decision making abilities, and communication skills to help them develop crucial healthy life styles and attitudes necessary to become healthy successful women. The Newhall B&GC has developed a new off-shoot of this program called “Sparkles” and will target approximately 40 girls aged 7-9 years old.
Go Girl Equestrian Therapy Scholarships – The Go Girl program will enable two low-income girls of single mothers to receive scholarships to support weekly equestrian therapy sessions. The goal of the project is to improve the health and wellbeing of children with special needs, while providing a supportive peer environment and financial assistance with therapy to their mothers. Specifically, the goals of the therapy include: improvement in physical abilities, balance, muscle control and cognitive, linguistic and social skills in each girl served.
Single Mother's Outreach
Case Management Program – Individual case needs assessment and program development for single mother families. The specific objectives of the program are to: assist single mothers in developing benchmarks and goals for personal and economic stability, coordinate the myriad of services needed by these single parent households in order to meet these goals, ensure single mothers and their children are effectively linked to appropriate services and support systems within SMO and in the community, and to monitor the progress of all family members living in single-parent households.
Our May 2013 business meeting was all about awarding grants and scholarships! Community grants were awarded to the Boys and Girls Club of SCV, Single Mothers Outreach, Carousel Ranch, the Child and Family Center and the Domestic Violence Center- all for programs aimed at improving the lives of girls and women in SCV.
