What Does The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Do?
The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley and its Foundation produce and support programs that enhance the health, economic, and educational status of women in the Santa Clarita Valley. These programs include:
- Lifeforward Workshops, free monthly presentations by professionals, designed to build self-sufficiency skills for adult women;
- Zonta Robotics for Girls, robotics training and competition program for middle and high school girls attending the SCV Boys & Girls Club;
- Virginia Wrage Grants, financial support for mature women re-entering the workforce;
- Klausman Women In Business Scholarship, a local, district, and international scholarship competition for women majoring in business at the undergraduate and graduate level; and
- Young Women in Public Affairs Award, a local, district and international award competition that recognizes young women for service to their communities.
The SCV Zonta Foundation also awards annual grants to community organizations to support projects that enhance the lives of women and girls in the Santa Clarita Valley. Grants recently have supported programs at the SCV Domestic Violence Center, SCV Youth Project, Girl Scouts, Single Mothers’ Outreach, and the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health.
In addition, Zonta volunteers support Zonta service projects and other Santa Clarita charities with over 3,000 hours of volunteer time annually.
The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley is a member of Zonta International, a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Zonta International has non-governmental organization (NGO) status with the United Nations, where it frequently provides input on women’s issues around the world. It has over 31,000 members in 1200 local Zonta clubs located in 68 countries and geographic areas.
